World Forum on Music 2019

Balázs Hornyák was invited by the European Music Council to participate in the World Forum on Music. His participation was supported by the Hungarian National Fund.
The IMC World Forum on Music is conceived as an influential global platform for sharing knowledge about music and society in the 21st century, a platform that explores a variety of topics from different perspectives: cultural, political and economic. The topics go beyond the aesthetic aspects of music production and address the mechanisms that promote or inhibit the active participation of people in cultural experiences.
This year’s Forum was once again an important opportunity for IMC members to meet and engage with colleagues from other areas to broaden their horizons and find inspiration for new projects, even partners for their implementation.
Interactive Concerts
December 2018
MÜPA (Palace of Arts Budapest) regularly organizes programmes for children and families. These programmes called „Cifra Palota” include workshops, interactive concerts, performances, educational programmes for children and parents. The aim of these concerts is to promote classical music and sensitize children. During these occasions, the little ones are accompanied by their parents and they can either try a musical instrument or participate in the interactive concert. Hundreds of people are attracted to such programmes and many return to the programmes on a regular basis.
ECHA Conference 2018
August 2018
European Council for High Ability (ECHA) held its 16th biennial conference in Dublin this year. Well-known and recognized talent experts and professionals gathered from more than 40 countries to discuss the topic of talent development in the 21th century.
Balázs Hornyák was the winner of the poster presentation competition in 2016 during the 15th ECHA conference in Vienna and as a result he was invited to ECHA 2018 to Dublin. In the Irish capital, he held a presentation about talent development in music and introduced the best practice of a Hungarian primary art school.
8th European Forum on Music

The European Forum on Music (EFM): Looking Back – Looking Forward. The Future of Europe’s Musical Roots took place from Thursday, 7 June until Sunday, 10 June 2018 in Oslo, Norway.
The EFM is an annual conference of the European Music Council (EMC), which was hosted by the Norwegian Music Council and is part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. Balázs was a delegate of the Hungarian Music Council. The conference focused on the importance and the value of musical heritage for our future European society. The conference was an invaluable networking opportunity for the participants since representatives of national music councils took part in the event such as international music professionals from all over the world.
European Agenda for Music
March 2018
The long-awaited European Agenda for Music was successfully launched on 21 March in Brussels. More than 100 music sector stakeholders and representatives from the European Parliament and European Commission gathered in Brussels to celebrate.
Balázs Hornyák took part in the event as a European Music Council Fellow representing Hungary. Before the event he also participated in the meeting of the EMC board.
Literature and Music
February 2018
A special event was held for the lovers of music and literature in ErvinSzabó National Library. Two musicians (BalázsHornyák and Julianna Kiss) and an actress (Gabriella Kiss) held a literary evening with music. Selected pieces of music mainly by contemporary and romantic composers were played by the flute and piano duo whilepoems of ÁgnesBujdosó(contemporary Hungarian poet) were performed by Gabriella Kiss.
Christmas Concerts
December 2017
In December Balázs gave a series of Christmas Concerts organized by various institutions and organizations. Some of them were public events such as the charity concert for the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Organization. The concert was held in Thanksgiving Reformist Church in the 13th district of Budapest. Balázs performed Schubert’s Ave Maria and a traditional Christmas song called Oh Holy Night accompanied by Anikó Katona (Hungarian State Opera).
Music Camp and Master classes
August 2017
At the end of summer Balázs taught musical talents in Danubia Talents Music Camp. This one week event was organised for the second time in Vác to help young talents in competition preparations, and to give a chance for children to learn from professionals. Besides flute classes Balázs taught chamber music.
European Forum on Music 2017
June 2017
Balázs was invited to the European Forum on Music 2017 to Pafhos, Cyprus as an EMC fellow in June 2017.
Balázs Hornyák was selected to the European Music Council’s Fellowship Programme in 2016. Since then he has been invited to board meetings, conferences and open discussions to different countries.
This year Pafhos is the European Capital of Culture. That is why the annual EMC (European Music Council) conference was organized in Cyprus in 2017.
The conference is a great networking opportunity since all participants are part of different networks in the music sector. The main theme of the conference was „Music and Cultural Diplomacy: Linking Continents – Bridging Cultures.”
Concert at the Hungarian Academy in Rome

On 26th May, 2017 Balázs Hornyák and Julianna Kiss held a concert at the Hungarian Academy in Rome. The duo played mainly romantic classical music by Schumann, Doppler and Donizetti but masterworks of the 20th century were also on the programme.
Concert in the Ervin Szabó National Library

Flute and piano duo held its debut concert in the National Library, Budapest. BalázsHornyák and Julianna Kiss played pieces by Doppler, Donizetti, Bartók, Schumann and Piazzolla. The concert was a great success, the duo was invited to give a concert in Rome, Italy which takes place at the Hungarian Academy Rome at the end of May.
UNESCO NGO Forum 2017
May 2017
Balázs Hornyák took part in UNESCO NGO Forum in Saudi Arabia as a representative of the European Music Council with the delegation of the International Music Council.
The participating NGOs, the NGO-UNESCO Liaison Committee, UNESCO in partnership with MISK Foundation held the 7th NGO Forum under the theme of Youth and their Social Impact. Over 400 NGOs come together from over 70 countries and over 2000 delegates from all parts of the world. Plenary sessions were held exploring issues such as: Youth Engagement and its Potential for Social Change, Optimizing the Impact of the Digital Native, Cultural Diversity as an Essential Dimension of Intercultural Dialogue, Power of Youth in Peace-making, and Educating for a Sustainable Future.
All art event in Semmelweis Salon
January 2017
Balázs was invited to play in Semmelweis Salon, Budapest on 12th January 2017. This concert was organized by Harmony Art Foundation.
The purpose of the Foundation is to showcase young artists and musicians and provide high quality entertainment for the supporters. Leading Hungarian singers, actors and musicians have been welcomed since the founding of the foundation. Before the music program a photo exhibition of Péter Litvai was opened.

Balázs Hornyák with Julianna Kiss (pianist) won thrid prize on “15th Don Vincenzo Vitti Music Competition” in Italy.
The flute and piano duo was awarded in category D (chamber music) after having played a short concert of three pieces of music. The competition took place in Castellana Grotte, Bari, Italy on 10th December 2016.
Charity Concert
December 2016
Before Christmas, Balázs played a number of Christmas concerts throughout Hungary. Some of them were charity concerts to help underprivileged people and sick children.
On 21nd of December Balázs Hornyák gave a charity concert with young opera singers. His duo with Zita Szemere (Hungarian State Opera) was a great success. His performance was accompanied by Anikó Katona (piano).
Summer Nights, Latin tunes
July 2016
On 14th July, Balázs is going to perform in Kalvin Court Budapest. Popular melodies such as tangos by Astor Piazzolla and Carlos Gardel will be performed by flute, piano and percussion. The open air stage and nice location gives the event a special atmosphere.

Participation in 6th European Forum on Music

Balázs Hornyák has been selected by the European Music Council to participate at the
European Forum on Music as an “emerging professional” in the 2016 European Capital city of
Culture, Wroclaw.
6th European Forum on Music was an occasion for music practitioners, networks,
organisations, teachers, emerging professionals, and other musicians to get together and
exchange ideas. The majority of the presentations and concerts were held at the National
Forum of Music, which is an outstanding new venue in the 2016 European Capital City of
Culture, Wroclaw.

Success at ECHA Conference
March 2016
The biannual conference of ECHA (European Council for High Ability) took place in Vienna from 2-5 March 2016. Balázs Hornyák won the award for the Best Poster Presentation.
More than 600 professional and leading experts of gifted education and psychology from 50 countries participated at the conference. The objective of poster presentations is to show the latest researches and good practices from all over the world concerning talent development. Balázs’ presentation was about a research had been done among the participants of Zoltán Jeney National Flute Competition in Hungary. As a result he set up a model of musical giftedness.
European Forum on Music Education

On 10-11 February, Balázs Hornyák participates in European Forum on Music Education as the representative of the Hungarian Music Council. His report on the event will be available soon.
